Hello,

I'm looking for information on whether its possible to prepend an outside line when a user dials 911 and if so, how can it be done? Currently our organization's Hicom 300E phone system is configured in a way that requires the user to dial a 9,911 in order to reach emergency services. Is it possible to also configure the dial plan to not only accept 9,911, but also 911. And if 911 is dialed, the dial plan would prepend the 9 in front to reach an outside line. Please note that I am not the administrator of the system so I'm not aware of any settings or features that specifically relate to this system.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Search this forum for "911". I don't know the Hicom 300E, but if it's similar to a 4000, then you're in luck.

Yes, there are several steps that I unfortunately don't have time to go into detail at the moment - rough day... Someone would look at LDPLN on your system using DIS-LDPLN; and you will see a number of entries such as 9-1-NXX-XXX-XXXX, 9-XXX-XXXX if you can do 7-digit dialing for local, etc. You should see one for 9-911. That will show you what route your call is currently going out. It should also show an ODR, which is a rule that says how the call gets dialed. You can look at the outdial rules using DIS-LODR, and they might look like "OUTPULSE 91" / "END" (stacked) or "ECHO 3" / "ECHO ALL" / "END"... These tell the system what digits to send out. The phone numbers are broken down into numbered parts and I always have to look it up, but let's say the country code is part 1 ( 1 in US), area code is part 2, local exchange is part 3, and last 4 digits are part 4 (I know that is wrong) - when it says EHCO 3 that is saying to send out the digits in that part of the number. The last part is the route to send the call on, use DIS-LROUT to see them. So you need an LDPLN for the digits 911, you need an ODR that says how to dial the digits (caries depending on type of line, etc), and you need to know the Route you need to use from LROUT. I don't still have my 9006 gear or I would copy all my stuff for you as I'm a hospital and we have it set up both ways even though we train our staff to always dial 9-911 by policy.

Hope that helps a little bit - it doesn't really go into creating any of that stuff - just looking at it.

Not sure what answer you are looking for other than "yes" because you say "Please note that I am not the administrator of the system so I'm not aware of any settings or features that specifically relate to this system".

So, "yes".

But you are not "prepending" the 9. Once you have recognised and collected dialled digits, you can use them, replace all of them, replace some of them, do anything you want with them and send them to any trunk. You just need 9-11 to be available. Problem may be where you currently dial "9-11x" where X is any other digit, it's going to sit there waiting for that extra digit. You might need to replace your current LCR with 9-1Z where Z means wait for end of dial timer, which will put a few seconds delay on the outgoing call for anyone dialling 9-1<anything>. So if you currently dial 9-111 to 9-119 for anything, there is a tiny bit more work to do.
