Hi there,
I have got a problem in running the backup system in our company. After 1 to 3 hours of backuping data an "E6096 Media Error" followed by an "E3714 Unable to write to media" occurs and the backup stops.
First I thought of bad tapes or dirty heads of the tape drive, because the server was running for the last 12 months in perfect condition and therefore there were no hardware changes at all (and only minor software changes some months ago).
Thus I bought some new tapes and used intensively cleaning cartriges (although they were used regularly before already). Unfortunately the error still occured. Next, I called the Sony Tapedrive Hotline and were told to download a Test Utility-Program which tested reading and writing of data. Of course the test was successful. (Because it did not test the drive for longer than half an hour I guess.) At the end the Hotline guys could only recommend to check the termination and update the service pack.
Useless to mention that it didn't work. The error lasts already for the last three weeks(!) and I am not very far away of a heart attack anymore...
Meanwhile I used to copy the most important files every few days to another fileserver. But that's of course only a bad substitute.
We are using ArcServe 2000 on a Dell PowerEdge 1400 running Win2000-Server with SP3. The tape drive is a Sony SDT-10000.
If anybody has a suggestion or has similar experiences, please let me know. I really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance
