Hi,
sorry for this stupid question.
Can you explain to me what are:
Bleed size, Live Area for text & crop marks.
I have these directions:
bleed size: 16 3/4" x 11 1/8" (1/8 bleed on all sides),
trims to 16 3/8" x 10 7/8",
Live area: 16" x 10 1/2"

I though that the bleed size = trim (crop) size + 1/8 on all sides...
Not so, according to the directions above:
16 3/8 + 2/8 <> 16 3/4.
Could you, please, explain ?

Seems like a small miscalculation. You are quite right about bleed size = trim size + bleed amount.

Assuming the trim size is correct, set your Quark document up to that size, create some guides/margins to show the live area (3/16 all around), making sure any important artwork stays within this area, and allow any artwork you need to bleed come at least 1/8 outside the page. I say at least because it usually doesn't matter if you add more bleed than you need. Most RIPs will ignore anything outside what is set.

I take it you're doing an ad for a publication and they've sent these specs to you? Every publication has different requirements for bleed - here in the UK the norm is 3mm but I do some ads for publications that require up to 10mm all round!! Your live area is very generous and much better than almost everything I have to deal with here where it can be any thing from 5mm (very rare) to 25mm all round! (at this point I usually have a look at the publication in question and see how close the ads have previously gone to the page edges...) Just follow the spec as supplied.

BigRedX, thanks.
I envy you - you use mm instead of inches.
Try this: (3/16 x 5/8)+7/32
I wanna move back to Europe...
