I'd like to validate a database programmatically. how do i do

There is a command VALIDATE DATABASE for that matter. Refer to the help for more info about how to use it. Especially the part about the RECOVER parameter.

It's not a universal problem solver, though. If you have defect tables or indexes, buy foxfix, it can fix very many problems of broken data files.

Unless a bit of data is not important, the cheapest recovery is restoring a backup.

Do you mean DATA TABLE (files containing actual data) or DATABASE (container for Data Tables)?

I ask the question because too often people mix up the terms thereby confusing the issue.
