Hi

I don't understand what it meens when in the headline of a Access database is "DBName (Access 2000 file format)"
and when you enter tools > options > advance > default file format there is "Access 2002" or the oposite.
What is the meaning of the diferent and how should I work?

Hey there :)
I get the feeling you recently upgraded. You can have the 2002 format also. When you work in one of those formats, you cannot do certain things from the other format if DB was converted.
We just did 2 very quick upgrades in our org. 97->2000->2002. That line tells me what the original conversion was.

Thank Denise.
You are right, I'm testing the DB after upgrade from 97.
But still, what does it do if change the default file format?

When upgrading to 2000, you lose the ability to make structure changes in the converted DB.
If you had upgraded to 2002(XP), you can make changes.
I suggest trying to copy the data only, and reconstructed the db with new tables and then pasting the data in. That may or may not help. I am 90% sure it will.
Good luck
Denise

The default file format only affects newly created databases in Access 2002.

Set to 2000 the new database will be an Access 2000 database (and will work in 2000 or 2002). Set to 2002 the new database will be Access 2002 database and cannot be used in anything other than Access 2002.

Unless you have a good reason to create new databases in Access 2002 - Access 2000 is horribly buggy.

Is it my english? Is it beter work with 2000 or 2002?

She has upgraded from a 97. 2000 was pretty bad. Especially for the upgrades.
:)

Sorry, having reread that it isn't very clear.

Stick with Access 2002 if possible. Access 2000 is pants (IMHO)
