Hi,

I am having trouble setting my system up to allow vpn connections. my system consists of the following:

Solwise SAR110 ADSL/Router
Windows 2000 server sp4
4 clients on xp

The router is open to accept port 1723 tcp then using nat to forward it to the private ip of the server.

When remote users try to connect to the server via vpn they just get verifying username and password and get disconnected from there isp. the users are connecting from 56k modems. the router is vpn compatable

Thanks

You will also need to forward the Protocol 47 to your Windows Box. Protocol 47 is GRE General Routing Encapsulation. Note this is a protocol number and not a port number.

I have forwarded protocol 47 to the private address where the server is and still cannot let remote users through. i have opened protocol 47 and not port 47. and opened tcp 1723 to the private ip of the server.

The router sometimes will crash when remote users try to connect or they might get disconected.

????Confused?????

Does the router allow for VPN connections to be passed through it?

The info from the manufacturers site.

SAR110
An ADSL Modem/Router with sophisticated NAT and firewall functions, supports IPsec VPN and IKE.

I dunno if i have to enable L2TP from the console of the router.

Thanks.

Hmm not sure why its not connecting correctly, it is PPTP you are using or are you using L2TP? From the manufacters site it says the router allows for VPN pass through

Also have you tried using the lastest firmware for the router this might help, but you will most likely have to re-enter all your settings again once you update it.

Just to check can client on the local network connect ok? Just to see if it a router problem or a problem on the server.

Connect to my server you mean?

All clients can see the server and the resources available, also the internet.

No i mean can u try VPN'ing with a client on your local network to see if they can connect using VPN ok. If they can then it seems that it could be a router problem but if they cant connect then it suggest something might be mis-configured on the server.

Sorry i misunderstood u for a min then. Yes i made a vpn connection from a client on my network and they connect ok

Thanks for your help

Sound like it something the routers not doing.

Port 1723 is open and forwarded to box?
Protocol 47 is open and forwarded to box?

If so all should be working.
