Hi!

Have you installed a Printer Server?
Linux is working very well as I server but I am not able to install a Printer Server.
I can share as a Printer Server the Printer Installed on my Server on LPT1, I can manage printer queues, etc,
But what if I have a printer installed on WS1 with WindowsXX installed on it?
How can I manage this printer?
I want to do the following:
I have a Linux system installed on Server(192.168.0.1)
I have a workstation installed on WS1 (192.168.0.2)
I have a laser printer installed on WS1 LPT1
WS1 is running Windows XX
I want to create a printer_queue on Server name RemotePrinter1
RemotePrinter1 is directed to WS1-LPT1
I send a document to be printed on LaserPrinter
From WS2 I send PRINT, To be Printed document is stored on RemotePrinterQueue, then it is sended to LaserPrinter on WS1
That's is very simple!!

I have a dream....
..I wish I could have a Printer Server on Linux like Novell has.

Thanks in Advance

Alex

If you are using the printer connected to a windows box, you will need to set up Samba to print. Then you need to set up the print queue using one of the print services, cuos or lprng. The print service can be set up through printtool, then select a remote printer configuration. You will need the name of the box your are printing to, the ip, and optionally, a login and password. Samba needs to have the printer identified in the smb.conf, once again you can use the gui or edit it manually. Webmin has a descent interface to samba or use a web browser, 127.0.0.1:901 I believe gets you intpo swat to set up the samba config. The printer will need to be shared on the win box with a share name. The print service in Linux will need the share name as well. Restart samba and lpd and it should work fine.
