Hi, There is no simple explanation of Frames..
Think of them as containers the enclose other containers and/or objects..
They can be are more than that, however, in that they can also control the behavior of those things they enclose ( Repeating Frames and Group Frames, for instance)

Modifying a report layout in Oracle Reports is one of the most frustrating tasks I have ever attempted.
(and I once got toothpaste back into the tube ! [smile] )

Read the on-line docs, check out any demos you have installed and then you may want to do what I did and pick another report writer.

Hi,
I find that when I must revise an Oracle Report's layout, the zoom-in feature is very helpful in identifying which frame is which...It does help some and some is all you can expect with this tool.

Instead of zooming in, you may select the frame in navigator tree. This tree shows explicitly the nesting order.

Agreed, but to resize it the zoom feature helps in avoiding the dreaded 'Frame GF21 intersects but does not enclose Frame F12' error..

Hi there
u can very well select the parent frame. u just have to select the text box on the report layout and from the tool bar u can select the parent frame of that perticualr box

but u must have solid patience when u create any report in 6i......it works but it takes lot of time.

You may create a template or use one of supplied with Reports and then use report wizard. In most cases this will create groups you need. Then refine your layout. Use Confine Mode to avoid wrong inclusions.

Hi all,
As you can see from the postings Oracle Reports can be used if you have the patience - and can use the 'default' layouts for most things...
If not, look into one of the many powerful report designers out there, like Crystal Reports.
