Hi every one;

I have made a report that is working on some machine and crashing on others. and before the crash gives a message like :

"CRW32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

I look for the error log but I could not find any error log.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Regards;
Sohrab

The error log isn't a CR thing, it is either a windows NT/2000 log, or a Dr. Watson type log.

Are you launching the report from the designer or from an application. Ken Hamady

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your answer, yes, I am running it from designer.

Some places to look for troubleshooting:

All users have the same version of CR?
Can they run any reports on these PCs or does just this one report crash.
Is there something different about this report?
How does the report connect to the database? Ken Hamady

Hi Ken,

I tried what ever I thought might of gone wrong. The answer to your first question is Yes, all the users running same version of CR.

The answer to your next question is that out of let say 300 reports, just 2 or 3 are crashing.

The answer to your next question is Maybe they are alittle bigger reports than usual. let say some of them using even up to 10 subReport.

The Last question I am not sure If you mean, through ODBC connections to the SQl Db

Do the crashing PCs have less memory than the others? Or are they running other things at the same time? Do they have another program installed that might conflict with CR? Do they have the same ODBC drivers and SQL client SW? Ken Hamady

Hi Ken,

As far as I noticed every thing on all the machines are same, the machines that are crashing even have more memory than others that don't. I don't know what application might cause the conflict, but all of them have almost the same programs on them.

This is a tough one. Not sure I can help you. You might try reinstalling CR on these PCs.

Since it only affects a couple of reports it might help to identify what is different abou t these reports other than size, including the subreports. You could try deleting the subreports, one at a time, and see if they eventually run. At what specific point does the program crash. When you open the report, or when you try to preview it? Yes, I guess, I have to delete the subreports as you said in order to find out the problem. To answer your question, CR crashes as soon as I double click on the report to open it. Thanks very much for your help,I realy appreciate your effort.

Can you open the report from within CR, using the File-Open menu command? Ken Hamady
