Hi,

E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Individual Mailboxes\, EC=Backup Agent Error -- (83) "Remote pipe open failed: time-out".)
E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Individual Mailboxes\, EC=Backup Agent Error -- (68) "Error status in named pipe.".)
YOu might see this error in the ARCserve activity log when doing remote backup of the mailboxes.
This timeout is caused by the Antivirus siftware running on
the ARCSERVE SERVER.

Stop the AV running on the ARcserve server.
If you are using InoculateIT 6.0 or Etrust 6.0 update the respective drivers for these AV software.
These updates are available on support.ca.com

Cheers

Quick Update to check on.

If you are running etrust/innoculate, Set the Realtime monitor to Scan "Incoming files only" instead of Monitoring "Both Directions".

Thanks

This solved my issue. Upon calling CA, I was told to search for the file INO_FLTR.SYS and check the version. Mine was 4.00.6000.66 and it needed to be updated to 4.00.6000.82

This page explains the versions.

ftp://ftp.ca.com/pub/inoculan/drvupdi.exe
This is the file I downloaded to update the InoculateIT driver.

Note that this is to be updated on both the server running Arcserve 2000 and the server running Exchange 5.5 being that they are separate servers in my case. After updating and rebooting both servers, everything seems to be working fine.

Hey this was some great info. I started having this same problem with the Remote pipe open failed message the other day. I am running Symantec Anti-virus software on all my servers, so I should stop the anti-virus software on the exchange server or the server that is actually doing the backup?

Thanks for the insight
