Can anyone tell me the features of an operating system please. And what the advantages over Unix are compared to Microsoft Windows. Thanks!

There lots of "features". And lots of headaches.
Features:
Large Application support
Large Hardware support
Easy to use (for the most part)
Easy to installed (Compaired to UNIX and X-Windows)

An operating system is the interface between you and productive work on a computer.
Advantages of unix are stability in multiuser multitasking environment.
