I have inherited an exchange system set up by someone else which seems to work OK 99% of time but I do get a few NDR's like that below:

The recipient could not be processed because it would violate the
security policy in force
<computer.mydomain.com #5.7.3 smtp;505 5.7.3 Client was not authenticated>
Right, I've been looking at this for a while and am not getting anywhere. What could this possibly be? Apparently its an application event log error 1710 - whatever that might be.
Any ideas appreciated. Somebody suggested that I may be getting problems because we dont have an SMTP connector setup. Although what difference could this make to <1% of the emails?
Thanks in advance
