Hey good people!

I've had this burner for about a year, and it's been average. But now, everytime I try to burn an image from my HDD I will ALWAYS have errors on it. Audio CDs burn fine, but they're not quite as fussy as data are they?

I know the game images I'm using are good as they install from HDD, it makes no difference if i burn the image, or extract the files and burn them, always errors.

I'm using Nero 5.5.9.14.

I'm going to upgrade to 6 soon anyway, but can't see that solving my problem, it appears to be h/ware related I'd say........

What am I doing wrong? I'm no expert at burning images, I hear you need all the correct ISO settings to get a working copy, but i thought the cue file took care of that?

Is there any diagnostic program to check that my burner isn't faulty before I fork out for a new one?

Cheers peepz.

Soz, should have put a subject in...........

have you tried a FIRMWARE update for your Burner yet? how old is the burner? what are your cache setting? what OS are you using?

and yes, AUDIO cd's are different than ISO images... AUDIO CD's are seperate files, where as an IMAGE is a single file being transfered... thus the question about your CACHE setting...

Ben

PS you might try CLONE CD for burning IMAGES, for testing of the CD drive, try NERO Drive Speed or INFO TOOL

Yes, sorry, more info is gooooood.

The CDRW is about a year old, it has 2 Mb on-board cache, and I use Win Xp Pro.

Not sure what you mean by cache settings???

What's a firmware update and where can I find one?

The model is a Freecom CD-RW (40x12x40x), they don't appear to have model numbers or names...........

Ok, first thing first, Firmware updates are best gotten from the Manufacturers (CD RW) website, there you look for the drive you have... (pls post what your drive is)...

the cache settings, I meant are Windows own to increase data access to the DRIVES installed... I'm not sure where exactly you can dable with them in XP... I use a TWEAKING program to do this for me...

yeah another question is what is your RAM size, your virtual RAM (Disk based SWAP file)? tweaking this might help your situation...

Ben

My RAM is 512 PC2700, and my swapper is system managed, so always a good size. The drive is alone on it's own IDE channel as I've heard other drives can cause problems.

I can't find a model number/name for this damn drive, not on the box, not on the manual, not on their site............

Hi there, to find out your CD-RWs make try looking under the Device Manager, there it should be listed...

if it is not, then try either Belarc Advisor or AIDA, both good progies to find out things on your Hardware setup...

another question, have you tried different brands of CDRs, or are you using the same ones for the last year or so? and have you tried yet to lower the burn speed...

Ben

Hi there,

If I understand correct, you are making a image "ISO" of your HDD, right?

1. You could uninstall Nero and reinstall it, download the
updates for Nero's website and then try it.

2. You can get a copy of Norton Ghost which is a really good peace of software when it come to making images "ISO" of any device(HDD).

3. When last did you format your pc?

Hope this helps
