Hey boyz....

Anyone know anything about this problem?

My machine at home will no longer shutdown properly. Windows will close (Win98) and shutdown, but then the computer just posts and restarts. It used to shutdown at this point, but not anymore... I looked for a BIOS setting that may be causing this, but didn't see anything (Award BIOS)... Anyone ever see this? Thanks in advance! =)

I suggest that you look for previous posts on the windows95 forum and in the FAQs in the same forum. There is also a MS upgrade that may help, details in one of the threads. Ed Fair

Dayzt,

I'm not one of the "Boyz" but I do know your answer. I had the same problem with one of my computers and someone gave me a patch for it and it worked. I also used it on 3 other computers. I just put it in my floppy drive and the name of the file is called 239887up.exe. Go to yahoo.com and enter that file name you can download it from microsoft. It is a 489kb application. I hope that I haven't answered your question too late, I just saw it.
I hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Download the Windows98 shutdown supplement from Microsoft. It's a known issue with certain hardware configurations.

Thanks everyone! It was the simplest solution:

I disabled Fast Shutdown and everything works hunky-dory.

Cheers!
