any idea where to get this update < cant find it on symantec;s site at all

Well its end of life and Symantec has supported it for 2 years no will support it if you call in.

Maybe somebody here has a copy they can post

Your best bet is probably to google for it. There are a few sites with older version support update providers out there I have the best luck on Google for these tasks. Also check filefront.com or download.com these are also good for out-of-date/unsupported downloads.

You really should consider upgrading to a supported version of Backup Exec.
