Question regarding use of BOMs in ACCPAC Order Entry forms.

When in an OE order entry form, when entering a detail line, once you specify an item#, if that item# has a BOM associated with it, you can optionally then fill in the BOM in the KIT/BOM column of the line. However, it is completely optional to fill this in. I want to understand the difference of filling in the BOM, or not.

Our normal procedure is to use "assembly" to create items that have BOMs and then on the OE screen we do not specify a BOM. However, i want to understand what actually happens if you do specify a BOM on the OE form. Does it somehow create an assembly for you using the BOM specified? If so, at what point does the assembly get generated?

Thank you.

OE does not create an assembly, you must post the assembly in IC before you can sell the item in OE.

Thank you ettienne. So what is the actual meaning of putting the BOM in the OE form?

You have to select the BOM #, you can have multiple BOM #s (or revisions) for a BOM (or assembled item).

hi ettienne, final question on this thread. The OE form will let me save both with, or without specifying a BOM for a given item. There must be a difference between putting it in and leaving it out. Can you explain the difference?

Thanks.

The only difference is that when you enter a BOM # you can print out the BOM components on the order/shipment/invoice.

Yeah, it doesn't actually _do_ anything. Maybe in a future version...
