This thing is such a pain to program and all I want is to be able to change the greeting and let callers dial an Ext.

I've read the manual and its really bad on showing how to do just the simple things.

Can someone tell me what setting I need to change? I've read change prompt 819 for the company greeting then I read just disable it and use the custom service.

Right now for day time a caller calls and a custom greeting is there but just allows the caller to leave a message. I cannot find where this greeting is recorded and enable the dialing Ext. feature.

During night mode no phones will ring but dialing an Ext. is enabled.

if as you say you have the company greeting setup

to rec: the compant greeting go to the main phone :
ring the voice mail port (it would help us to know what make & model phonesystem yo have)
when you hear the voicemail answer type

#6* 998
press 5 1 then record greeting at the tone (ie thank you for calling (company name)

to record menu (ie if you know the extention please dial it now other wise dial 1 for sales 2 for service & so on

same as above

type #6*998
press 5 4 1 record menu at the tone

if you have a pc get a null modem cable and connect th v/m to the pc
use hyperterminal to set up the menu commands ie what exts the no 1..2...or 3 will go to

but this should get you started.....peter

Voice Mail is KX-TVS50
Phone system is a Panasonic KX-TD816

I've reset all the prompts for system default and still get the old Greeting in Day mode.

Need to know what the prompt number is that has the greeting for Day mode. Doesn't matter if the port is set for user 1, user 2, or system. It still has the old greeting on it that just lets the caller leave a message with no option to dial an Ext.

I've got just port 1 on the Voice Mail connected to the phone system and port 2 is not connected.

Yes the best way to do that is using a pc to program the custom greeting variables. Once you record the greeting and you know the custom greeting number, you can then access the vm system using a null modem cable and hyperterminal to set the variables you are looking for. Here is a partial document i created for our business that may help you. I have the tvs 220 but may be the same menu structure for you or similar.

Creating - Editing Custom Greetings or Custom Prompts Via Computer

The following information explains the setup of custom greetings and custom prompts within the voice mail system. The method of setting up these custom greetings is performed via computer, connecting the computer directly to the data port of the VM system.

Setup an icon on the desktop that calls hyperterminal. Clicking this icon will bring you to the main menu of the VM system.

Enter 2 - VT 100
Enter 1 - Program
Enter 4 - Service Setting
Enter 2 - Custom Service Settings
Enter the appropriate Custom Greeting number
Now you are in that greeting or prompt. now you want to assign what will happen when the customer presses the appropriate key on there telephone keypad.

This screen is used to setup keypad options within either custom greetings or custom prompts. For example, custom greeting 1 says “For sales, please press 1. When the caller presses the number 1, it triggers custom Prompt XX (Your sales custom prompt). This custom prompt is a prompt explaining more about sales and the options you have while listening to that prompt.

Pressing option 2 by the caller might trigger another custom prompt. An Example of this might be, Customer Service, and so on. These are examples naturally, but you can set the variable for each telephone key that is pressed by the customer within that custom greeting. Example, pressing 1 may go to shipping dept, 2 goes to another department, 0 goes to the operator, or you could setup another to transfer to an extention, voicemail, etc. There are a number of options to choose down at the bottom of this screen. After entering the variables, press the "\" to exit out and to save the changes.

Hope this helps a bit

I dont know if your system is the same structure as mine but here is another doc i created for our business TVS220

Recording - Editing Custom Greetings

Using a telephone, you can record or edit the way each greeting sounds by following the following procedures:

Intercom - 165 or appropriate one
Press the # key and 6 Example: (#6)
You will be prompted to enter the party’s mailbox number. Enter *998
You will be prompted to enter the password. press the password and the #
Select option 5 (Modify Message)
Select option 1 (Change the Company Greeting)
Enter the number of the Greeting. Your options are 1-100.
Listen to custom greeting and press one of the following options: Change (1), Accept (2).

Like I said not sure if all this is the same but maybe it will help some.

No option 1 to change company greeting.

I think some how who ever setup this voice mail has the user prompts disabled for day mode and its going straight into a recorded greeting of someone's mailbox.

I can change the prompts for night time but changing it for daytime does not do anything.

Do you have a puter to access the vm system via null modem?

Yes I do and that is another problem. I can access it fine with a console cable but no way to back out of a menu unless you wait for it to reset or unplug and replug.

to back out of a menu hit the back slash (\) key
for the night mode menu you record a 2nd menu (ie costom menu 2 )and point the v/m to it in night mode
to use the coston menu setup port service in day mode to custom 1 ...in night mode set the port service to custom 2
set compant greeting in port service to compant greet 1 in both modes.
to set where the different options go to set in costom service settings set up custom 1 & 2 for night & day mode

peter just keep posting and we will setup for you

also it is most likly that the v/m isent setup as custom or aa (i would think it is setup as voice mail pick up each phone
ring voice mail ie (165) go to record greeting section (ie)5 1..1 2& 3 and lissen to each greeting until you find it start at ext 101

Yeah dude, its pretty easy once the main concepts are understood. I have played with our system so much and still dont know 1/2 of it. lol

What I do is set the day mode, night mode and the break mode all identical using the same prompts.

I know there has got to be a way to get the system to do what you want but you could set the night mode up the way you want it for now and put the phone system in night mode exclusively by pressing on the main console *781 for night mode and *780 for day mode. Not what your looking for im sure but could be used in a pinch. But once you have access to the vm system you can accomplish what you want.

tec

yea night mode works great but then the phones do not ring which is kind of bad for working hours so that isn't an option.

I have the TVS50 software and cannot find the setting to change the way day time anwsers.

I'll have to look through the serial port connection and see whats there if the \ key works for backing out of menus. I'm sure I've hit all the keys and nothing worked.

you will find it in program ,service settings
i am pritty sure the \ will move menu back for you
i use procom my self
if you were pressing all the keys to find the one that works then it wouldnt work becouse you would have the prompt mode (left menu mode)

Yeah the (\)does take you back to previous menus and does work well.

Hey mcnmcp,

I was looking around in my system and go to program, port/trunk service, then port service. On mine port 1-6 are my mains for one ucd and 7-8 for the other. Depends I guess on how many ports you got, press 1 to begin with. You will go into that port and look at the custom you are using there, thats the one you should be hearing initially. Thats the way mine is set up anyway. I have 1-6 at the same custom1 and 7&8 set at custom 2. That should tell you which is your main greeting and you can use the directions we mentioned to edit that greeting. Not sure if you are using "system" for that greeting or not. Is the one your using a greeting that was made by a rep in your organization or a system sounding greeting?

I dont know man, maybe that will help in some regard.

tec

Found \ does work to go back.

Now I found out if someone leaves a message during the day time mode it is not the General Mail box but goes somewhere else.

I cannot seem to find where this greeting is and where the messages go if someone does leave a message.

The greeting is a recording someone made and is not the default system greeting of "Welcome to the VPS".

I think thats a system message. Did you look at port 1 to see what if its set at system or a custom message?

have a look at the mailbox setup you should only have
m/box 998
999
and the mailboxes you setup yourself

if there are no others then it is the gdm takeing the messages
