Help with TNT

I recently switched phone companies and started using the MaxTNT for all of our users. We have 2 users who can't seem to connect. We're running 9.1.2

With the first user, he is dialing in and the modems are handshaking. When it gets to the point of verifying username and password, he gets disconnected. I'm getting a disconnect code of 120 (Requested protocol disabled/ unsupported) and a progress code of 30. The user is using Windows ME with the system just restored using the restore disk that came with his computer. Is there any way of trying to find out what protocol(s) he is trying to negotiate with? Also, he can connect just fine to a PM-3, which will probably be leaving service soon. Everyother user can connect just fine.


The Second user isn't even finishing the handshake and I'm getting a disconnect code of 185 with a progress code of 31.


If anybody can help me, I'd appreciate it.
 
You may have to look at the user's DUN settings. Perhaps they have callback enabled, PAP instead of CHAP or vice versa, TCP Clear, whatever. Make sure they have it configured correctly first before moving forward. As for finding out what protocols the user may be using, there is a way determine this through a wandisplay, but this is difficult with a TNT. The best way to really do this is to isolate the user by directing the user to a particular modem card and make sure no other users use that card. Then open the card with the open command and run wandisplay 64 to capture the hex trace while attempting to dial in. As for decoding the hex I have read that ethereal can read Lucent/Ascend hex dumps, but I have not tried it personally.

The second user with cause/progress 185/31 means before the modems had completed training, the connection disconnected. The TNT modem was waiting for a Data Carrier Detect (DCD) signal from the user’s modem. Typically, the modems had marginal line quality. Because the TNT unit’s modem has a digital connection to its local CO, the poor line quality is most likely between the user’s modem and its local CO. Also, there might be an incompatibility between the modems. In which case since your TNT is on relatively current software (not the latest, but recent enough for most modems) then perhaps the user's modem needs a firmware upgrade.
