help with telnet & ftp

I have a sun box running Sol8. When someone tries to telnet or ftp to the system it takes 1-2 minutes before the login prompt appears. The network seems to work well with the portal connections and had been working before a power outage. I had checked /etc/inetd.conf and everything looks alright. There are no tcp wrappers.

Would anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Are youe using server names or ip addresses?

Check the syslog messages. And you may have more idea.

Thanks DNS was not running properly and it seems the system was hanging on the reverse lookup.
