I have a form which I would like to setup to e-mail directly to someone. I have placed the button on the page, setup the scripts and when I click on the submit button, I get an error message which locks up acrobat and my e-mail dialog box. I am running Groupwise as my mail and running on a Windows 2000 platform.

Ideally, I would like to place this form on our intranet site, but dont't have a clue as to how to set up the submit by e-mail field.

Did anyone else run into this problem? If so, how did you solve it. I called technical support at Adobe Acrobat, but they did not know why it was not working properly. I had the scripts correct.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sheryl

Hi

What scripts are you using to send the email? Are you using the superb fdfgateway from planetpdf?

This is one of my areas of knowledge if you are using acrobat reader and submitting your page to an ASP handler page, so repost with more info Derren

Derren,

Thanks for your prompt response. I did not get the scripts from planet pdf, instead, I copied them directly from the adobe manual from page 167 as follows:

this.mailDoc(true, "name@address.com", "", "", "Message Subject Description");

When I spoke with Tech Support, they stated that the following statement or the "mailto:" would be the best way to accomplish the submission of e-mail.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ha! That's a joke! This feature is only available in the full version of acrobat, not the reader, and even then it struggles in a browser window. Was that the Adobe money-making machine advising you or your company tech support?

It seems like such an easy solution doesn't it! No, I have this feeling that you are just about to get aquainted with active server pages, dlls and CDONTS ... Derren

It was adobe tech support who kept me on the phone for quite awhile.

I have been searching the Novell website regarding Groupwise and I did come across the matter of a certain .dll that may be the culprit.

I guess I need to keep on trying I guess. Is there a good resource that I may refer to somewhere?

Thanks,

Sheryl

Yes! Go to and look for their fdfgateway scripts and the fdftoolkit. Once you have investigated these thoroughly post again and we'll go through it as it is complicated (when you first start) but simple once you know what is happening.

I might of known that Adobe told you to use the Acroat method!

Thanks so much for your help. I have downloaded and printed various documentation off the PlanetPDF Website. I guess I will review this info and begin and soon as I can.

Take care and I will probably be back here tomorrow

I'll be around! Good luck, it's not as hard as it looks. Derren

i'm back, help where do I start? I have read this info and I am confused. I am working from a Novell Network with Groupwise. I spoke with our systems administrator and he told me I am on my own. If I could get some guidance I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Sheryl

1) Can you run ASP pages from the Novell server? I am sure even your systems admnistrator will be able to help you with that answer

2) Can you send an email using CDONTS? Systems administrator again

3) If you can say yes to both, then you should have a file called fdfgateway.asp. This needs to be setup on your sever in their intranet folder (hopefully inetpub\
4) there are two activex dlls which need to be registered, fdfacx.dll and the other one which I think is tdkacx or something (which doesn't need to be registered)

5) Make your pdf submit to the url of the fdfgateway.asp file and add "#FDF" on the end and ensure that it is opened in a browser.

Then when you have done all these or have been told they can all be done, get back in touch Derren
