Hi,
What would I set the Retention rules(Basic and Extended) on the storage policy to achieve the following:

Data is backed up once a month.
Retain only the last months backup.
And retain the half-yearly backup for another half-year then overwrite.

Appreciate any help.
thanks

myuserid7,

How long do you want to keep the once a month Full Backup? I will assume a month.

Go to the "Copy Properties" of your storage policy.

Click the "retention tab"

Set your "Basic retention rule for All Backups" to 30 days 1 cycle, that will keep it for over 30 days, since it wont actually overwrite till it has then next monthly full. If you want to shorten it, just lower the days. FYI, you will have to set what day it is actually backed up on in your Schedule Policy for that particular client.

Then click "For" under "Extended Retention Rules for Full Backups" and set the days to keep to about 183 (half a year) and use the dropdown box to pick the "Half Yearly Full" so it keeps only that backup for the half year.

You should be set. Let me know if this is what you wanted.

Thanks Mike,

I believe that is exactly what I wanted.

Full Backup runs once a month.
Keep the monthly full for 1 month.
Keep the half-yearly Full for 6months(half year).

What I wasn't sure of was how to do keep the Half Yearly full for another half year.... hopefully this will do the trick.

Thanks again.
