this is what I am doing but doesn't preview. is it because I am on a mac. when I send to my professor, he says he can see it and works good.
but I am not sure if I am doing something wrong???
1) make the shape easily in photoshop.
2) add 2 layers. (example: text- "home"), one plain, one with effects that shows how the button would light up when mouse goes over it.
3) leaving all layers active, I then transfer to imageready.
4) then here i click the little wand type thing on the bottom of my rollover pallete or the new rollover state.
I have my new layer that I want to show up when mouse goes over it.
5) save optimized as image and html.
6) I try to preview in browser.
7) I see a button. no html.
it is the button with my effects on it. nothing happens when I put my mouse over it.

Can you help me with what I am doing wrong?

When you are in the "Over state" in the rollovers palette, in the top layer of your rollover, you must uncheck the visibility (looks like an eyeball). Then save with the options set to HTML and images. It sounds like you did that though... What browser are you using?
