Our senior guy is out and I'm having to take up the slack. We have a vendor who wants to RAS into our switch. She's asking for Dial up #, RAS server login and password, and switch login and password. I know the switch login and password but how do I find the Dial up # and the RAS server login and password? Please help!!!!

I read this but it doesn't tell me what I need:

The best way would be to find the tiny modem attached to your server, (by USB) unplug the phone line from the modem, attach an analog phone and call something like a cell phone or your desk phone.

Look at the caller ID, and that's your dialup line.

Carpe dialem! (Seize the line!)

You won't be able to find a login's password or a PPP remote login's password.
But, you can change it or add a new one. This can be done from linux command line or the Internet Explorer Browser under Security -> Administrator Accounts

from linux command line:
cmuseradd remote ras
(where remote is type for PPP and ras is the login name)

cmpasswd ras (will allow you to set a password for ras login)

cmuseradd super-user -C 18 avaya
(where super-user is the type login, 18 is the user profile, and avaya is the login name)

cmpasswd avaya (will allow you to set a password for avaya login)

Thanks for the help so far. I've found the number and can get to the login prompt for the switch but the login I've created doesn't seem to work. I tried doing it through the web gui. Also it doesn't seem to matter what I put into the RAS part, it just connects. How do you connect to the linux command line? Do I need to plug into the server with a cross over cable and connect that way?

Windows 2000, XP or Vista you would need to setup a dialup networking connection to dial your inads line.
When you login and authenticate with the remote login and password, it will start a PPP session between the server and your PC. You can then connect with telnet, ssh, ASA, or a browser using the PPP ipaddress to get to CM, linux, or browser menus.

Well I had the "show terminal window" checked under the security tab under the dial up networking connection and a window popped up that was asking for the cm username and password. I couldn't get any of the logins I have to work though. I tried unchecking the "show terminal window" box and it won't connect at all. What am I missing here?

did you add the remote login and password with the above information?

You need the "show terminal window" to manually login with the remote login and password. Once you authenticate you will see curly braces and what may appear to be garbage. This is good. Click the Done button on the terminal window.

Status the network connection to get the PPP address to use with ASA, telnet, ssh, browser.

Okay I think I'm close but the problem is the username I created isn't working so I'm not authenticating. I added it to the website under maintenance, security, administrator accounts but it doesn't seem to work. I can see other users here and it allows me to change the passwords but those don't work either. Am I supposed to add/change the username somewhere else? It almost seems like this is the switch user.

add a new user
(ras)
bullet in remote login
bullet in password
enter a password (raspw2009)
re-enter a password (raspw2009)

Click Add

Try it.... It should work

Wow I didn't even see the option for Modem only when I created the user the first time. Now it says "Start PPP now!" and goes through the curley braces and garbage and then disconnects after about 15 seconds. I tried to right click and status on the dial up connection but it's grayed out because it was never really connected.
