Our merlin legend went down the processor died. I took another processor board and installed it. I renumbered it and when i try to retore from back up I get a message that says change system programming port to extension. Can someone help me get this system back on line? I changed the extension number on port one. I dont think that is what it meant.

What it means is the PROGRAMMING PORT was physically moved from the default of the 1st MLX port to one of the other 1st 5 ports on that module.

To fix this, using REGULAR SPM (NOT WINSPM) the sequence is:

System Program > Exit > System > Sys Prog Port > change it to the 1st MLX extension in the system.

ok.. that makes since and i tried that but have not had sucess. Let me explain further what has happened and maybe you can help. please exuse my ingnorance with the system. I am a nortel person and have not messed with a merlin in a while.

This system went down and would not come up. we have several of these in other buildings that are no longer used. I took the processor card out of the one down and put one of the others in it. changed the translation card out and trying to do a restore to put that info on the new processor.. I am doing something wrong and cant figure it out.. Any help is very much appreciated..
Thanks

You would need to do a complete erase of the processor you install, BUT with no modules installed, before you do the restore.

Not to mention, the replacement MUST BE the same vintage of the one being replaced.

More info shown below, if you are interested.

Thanks merlinman. I did not see the info.. It did a frigid start and back to deafault settings. When I try to load memory card it says a board mismatch...It wont let me load from card..

Merlinman.. I actually was able to get main board back up and first 5 cards.. no dial tone or anything.. When i seat the next powersupply and next card i cant get back into the system.. If you would rather i can give you my email adrress and or phone and we can take this off line...
