Hello forum,

I had some major problems with my PC so I decided to reformat and reinstall.

I was a little out of my league here though. The problem was that I also had a partitian for Linux (which had installed it's own selection screen that appears when you boot up - ie Choose Linux, Windows, etc..).

Anyways, I managed to reformat and install and everything works smoothly. The only problem is that it installed windows on drive D (I know this is from when I was trying to reclaim the Linux partitian and I must've done it wrong). C is usable, it's just empty. The other problem is that my 30GB HD is now 2GB for C and 20GB for D (The other 8 is missing or just not seen by Windows Explorer).

I would like to clean this all up and regain my HD space if possible. I don't mind reinstalling - but again, the partitian screen I found a little difficult to follow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi
I do not know this may help but you can try.
I am quite confused by how you partition your harddisk
but maybe you can use software to help you partiton your harddisk to make things easier.

Software recommended:
PartitonMagic
The website is

Thanks for answering memorable,

I have used partition magic before! Could I use it to erase C, then expand D to recover that space, and then finally rename D to C?

The way I partitioned before (as mentioned in my original post) was through a partition program in the Home XP setup. I used it to scrap Linux and must've told it to install there (in D) afterwards.

Thanks again,

hello again.

But actually i have not use the problem before so i do not know whether it is able to do it. Sorry. What i am told from book is that it is able to create, resize, and merge partitions on a hard drive without losing data. You can use the software to easily run multiple operating systems, convert file system types, and fix partition table errors.

Anyway i have a question can i ask you
what is (extended memory)xms

Hey - thanks linney! I got lots of info about removing that Linux Boot Manager AFTER removing Linux myself (at least I learned from it!)

The partition and format article was exactly what I was after! Thanks!
