Hi, I'm having trouble defining a new network resource on the NIM master, in order to LAN install a new client.
I've created the resource with a valid NET_ADDR and SNM, obtaining the following error:

net_10_1_1_0:
class = networks
type = ent
comments = Created on Mon May 18 13 49 16 UTC 2009
Nstate = information is missing from this object's definition
prev_state =
net_addr = 172.31.254.0
snm = 255.255.254.0

There is other network definition previously created in the NIM master that is working OK.

Can you help me troubleshoot this issue?

try to add a host (nim clinet) from this new network - I think the network will be configured automatically.

Hello C4rl0s,

Please add new LPAR hostname & IP on NIM naster etc/hosts file.

Thank you, guys! Problem resolved.

Hi, unable to install yet...

The current state of the client machine defined in the master is the following:

recupera:
class = machines
type = standalone
connect = nimsh
platform = chrp
netboot_kernel = mp
if1 = ent-Network1 recupera 001a64448835
cable_type1 = N/A
Cstate = BOS installation has been enabled
prev_state = not running
Mstate = not running
boot = boot
lpp_source = AIX_53_00_07
nim_script = nim_script
spot = 53_07_00
control = master

... but when I launch a BOOTP install (Normal Mode Boot) from the SMS menu of the target machine (blade) I get the following error:

!BA010003 !

.----------------------------------.
| No Operating Systems Installed |
`----------------------------------'

Why is not performing the RTE installation? Any log files to chick in the master?

When a I launch a ping from the SMS menu to the NIM Master, it exists connectivity.

Are you telling the nim client to boot from the network? It looks like it is trying to boot from hard disk.

Boot to SMS
Select 2. Setup Remote IPL (set all your ip settings)

escape to main SMS menu
select 5. Select Boot Options
select 1. install/boot device
select 6. network
select 1. (or whatever your ethernet adapter is)
select 2. Normal mode boot
select 1. Yes

Hello,

Also you did mentioned that it's BLADE so you can set boot sequence on BladeCenter Managment Module, First boot device as -Network.

Good Luck .

Looks to me like the boot request is unanswered either because the network is down or because the NIM master is not responding to the request.

The ref code meaning:

BA010003:
Cannot get server hardware address
If the system is a model 185 or A50, refer to partition firmware progress code E174. For all other systems, refer to partition firmware progress code CA00E174

CA00E174:
Establishing host connection
If the system is not connected to an active network or if the target server is inaccessible (this can also result from incorrect IP parameters being supplied), the system will still attempt to boot and, because timeout durations are necessarily long to accommodate retries, the system may appear to be hung.

Perform the following.

Restart the system and get to the SMS utilities. In the utilities menus, check the following:
Is the intended boot device correctly specified in the boot list?
Are the IP parameters correct?
Verify the network connection (the network could be down).
Have the network administrator verify the server configuration for this client.
Attempt to "ping" the target server using the SMS Ping utility.

Thank you all, guys. I've finally got the machine installed with your help. Wrong IP parameters were defined in the Blade SMS menu.

But I'm having another problem now... I'm trying to define a new lpp_source resource in the NIM master. I pretend to create the lpp_source from AIX 5.3 Technology Level 08 OS image (a lot of BFF files located in NFS exported directory).

The NIM master oslevel is 5300-08 too. I launch the following command:

nim –o define –t lpp_source –a server=master –a location=/export/lpp_source/AIX_5300_08 –a source=/net/desabbdd/repositorio/AIX/AIX_5300_08 AIX_5300_08

... getting these set of errors:

Now checking for missing install images...
warning: 0042-265 c_mk_lpp_source: The image source "/net/desabbdd/repositorio/AIX/AIX_5300_08"
that was used to define the lpp_source is missing one or more
of the following from the list of default packages:
bos.help.msg.en_US
bos.msg.en_US
lum.base
lum.msg.en_US
rsct.msg.en_US
rsct.msg.EN_US
Tivoli_Management_Agent.client
warning: 0042-267 c_mk_lpp_source: The defined lpp_source does not have the
"simages" attribute because one or more of the following
packages are missing:
bos
bos.net
bos.diag
bos.sysmgt
bos.terminfo
bos.terminfo.all.data
devices.graphics
devices.scsi
devices.tty
bos.mp
bos.64bit

As far as I know if the lpp_source doesn't have the "Simages attribute" It can't be used for installing the base operating system, right?

Any ideas for getting this working?
