I am somewhat of a novice with this system, so I don't know if I can do this myself or not, but I do know some basics and this problem seems like it shouldn't be that difficult. Basically I have a remote location that has less than five employees and they are using a different phone system altogether. In the past this system was set up to automatically forward the direct numbers to an outside number. In other words normally the direct numbers are 828-2XXX where XXX is the extension. Internally, it acts just like having the phone forwarded to an outside number. If you dial the extension from sa ring, you get forwarded to the remote number, but if you dial using sa voice, you just get an error tone. I have been able to reproduce the effect by setting up a phone to forward to an outside line, but it only works if that phone is set up with that extension. If I move the extension off, it stops working. I know these others are set up without having a phone that is forwarding it. I'm sure you need more information, but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it and I will try to get whatever information I can to help. Thanks!

I am not sure if this will help or not, but disable VOICE ANNOUNCE RECEIVE on the CALLED TO Extension.

ALSO - Look to insure they do not have their HANDS FREE ANSWER on, just in case that's it.

Thanks for this tip. I did check these, and I may have been confusing in my original message. Normally when I dial one of the extensions that was already set up, it acts the way I described, and there is no phone in this office that is assigned to those extensions. However with the one I am trying to setup, I have the extension assigned to a phone, and that phone is setup to forward to the outside line. I would like to be able to free up that phone to use in case someone moves into that office, and I am pretty sure that none of the other extensions that are set up this way are tied to a physical phone in this office. I don't know if that makes sense, but I hope this better explains what I am trying to do. I took this extension out of coverage because internally when people were dialing it, it would go to voicemail. I don't have to have it set up for internal users to connect to it because they can always dial out to the direct number and it will forward to the outside line. I appreciate any suggestions anyone has. Thanks!

I think you have mfm(multi function module) extension numbers that are forwarded. Please respond w/release of Merlin Legend you have and what modules you have in the system. In order to forward mfm extensions you need to have a release 6 or higher.respond w/ above info and maybe I can help

I think I have version 7 of Merlin Legend, but I can't remember how to check. I know there is a code to find out on the phone, but I haven't done it in a while. Assuming it is version 7, are mfm extension numbers hard to set up? Thanks!

You get your release in the display by going to a phone, lifting the handset (or pressing speaker) and dialing *05

Try this procedure:

Renumber an adjunct to become the desired Extension Number:

System Renumber>Single>Adjuncts>Old Adjunct No.>Enter>New Extension No.>Enter

Assign Authorization Code to New Extension:

Extensions>More>Auth Code>Ext. No.>Enter>
Code:
>Enter
(Hint: Make the Authorization Code be the same as the Extension Number)

Enable Remote Forwarding:

Remote Fwd>Extension No.>Enter

To Forward the Extension:

Go to a KEYSET, and press an SA Key
    Dial #80-[Authorization Code]-#-*33-9-[Outside Telephone Number] #

Thanks for the response. I am running Merlin Legend 7.0 V 10.0. This looks like a promising solution, but without sounding to dumb, what adjunct number do I use? If this is something specific to my environment, is there an easy way to figure it out? If it is just the extension number I am trying to get setup, then that is no problem. Thanks for your help!

You can use any adjunct.

To figure out which ones are available, do a PRINT of EXTENSION DIRECTORY.

It will look something like this:

A 1/ 1 400 OPERATR NNYN u3n 1/21 7300 NNNN U 3 N
A 1/ 2 6470 RECEPTN NNNN u3n 1/22 7301 NNNN U 3 N
A 1/ 3 471 CONF RM NNNN u3n 1/23 426 TOM NNNN U 3 N
A 1/ 4 425 CORY NNYN u3n 1/24 7303 NNNN U 3 N

The 1/1 = a real extension, 1/21 = the adjunct.

In the example above, adjunct 426 may be in use already, since it's labeled.

Once you decide on one, it may be a good idea to print its extension info out to see if it is in use or not.
