Is it possible to hook up my laptop to my nt server through direct cable connection. My laptop runs windows ME and my server runs NT Server 4.0 if it is possible what do i need to do to get it working??

Thanks
Andy

Yes ME will run and connect with NT. Are you are talking about directly connecting to your server or on a network. A network I am guessing with NT. You can connect through a network hub using a standard (RJ-45) network cable. You can create a password on the server for the ME, add the proper protocols such as TCP/IP (NETBeui), set the IP and subnet and logon.

If you are talking about connecting directly with an NT machine, you can use a crossover cable. If you could give more information, I would be happy to try and guide you in the right direction.

Hi there,
What i'm trying to do is hook my laptop up directly to the NT Server, not over the network. I only really want to do this if i can get access to the files/printers on the NT Server.

Any info would be great!

Thanks
Andy

You can use a crossover cable. This cable will allow you to directly connect the NIC (PCMCIA) from the Laptop to the NIC on the server. You can do this in lieu of a network hub. It will give you the same type of access you would have through a network, it just bypasses the need for a hub. The cables are available from almost any computer supply or office store. You set up the password on the server with user permissions (NT User Manager for Domains)to have access to a shared drive on the server. For this type of temp sharing you may want to use a NETBeui protocol. It will allow you access to a network drive through Networkwork Neighborhood or you can map directly to the server drive you are wanting access to. You must have a free NIC card to do it this way. If you need more info about setting up, post back. Hope this helps
