Hi, I work in an office with around 200 employees. We will shortly be converting all workstations from Windows NT (Access 97) to Windows XP (Access 2002). We have numerous Access databases which will need converting, and have done some preliminary tests to try and see what kind of problems we may face...

Can anyone give me a heads up of some of the problems they may have encountered or things to watch out for when we 'go live' with this. Any suggestions may end up saving us a lot of time!

Thanks in advance

I have a similar issue with going to 2003. I didn't think there would be much to do, but some people internally are saying there are problems.

Anyone know what can trip you up?

Test a single conversion thorougly to work out any problems.
Make sure you have (and update) the reference libraries. Prioritize the required relevant libraries to the top of the list, as far as possible. If the reference is missing, you may need to look for them (Search the hard drive, or the CD) and copy/move them to the required folder.

The only problem I had so far is that the Options\Datasheet\Default font list doesn't exist and found no reference as to how to correct this error.

Oh yea

By default, Access 2000 and newer do not include the reference to DAO library. If your application uses DAO, you will have to add it. (Or per Mirco$oft's recommendation, modify the code for ADO.)

ALT-F11 to bring up the Windows Visual Basic window, then from the menu, "Tools" -> "References". The library name is "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library".

Willir is right convert to 200 first. Also look at the FAq's and the microsoft site. Good luck :)

I do not develop in Access so I am quite handicapped at this point. We have an old Access application that works in Access 97 but when users are upgraded to Access 2002, they are unable to execute the program. I began debugging and found that in Access 97 there is a toolbar named Visual Basic but in Access 2002, there is no such toolbar. Any ideas on whether it was renamed or deleted?

You should have started a new Thread to get more replies. There is a code button on the tool bar, which load the editor.

Never give up never give in.

There are no short cuts to anything worth doing :)
