My site in the UK is reporting the following issues with there BCM400

"When you ring the main number there is no option menu press  1 for customer service etc so all coming through to the phone on my desk.
Also the time is incorrect it is showing as 8.04 instead of 9.22 and there is no voice mail on any phones. "

They reported the issues after the new year, I am wondering if the time sync is the issue?

thanks

Mark

Your BCM 400 could be either the old Windows NT or Linux version. The fact that Voicemail has stopped working means that you have no IP connectivity. It sounds as if the hard disk is on it's way out.

I'd try and see if you can connect via the browser or Element Manager if you have the Linux version. Try and ping it first as this will be important. Check that the LAN cables are seated OK.

The BCM will usually run if the hard disk has failed, but without IP applications etc.

You could try and power the BCM down for a few minutes and check out the internal connections and reseat / clean them as the insides tend to get dirty.

Power up the BCM after checking it out and wait until it has finished powering up. Run a constant ping to see if it has worked.

Normally I would suggest that you have a backup of the phone system, but there is little point if the IP has failed.

So I was trying to gain network access to the Nortel and sure enough I can't get to the Cisco Switch it is connected to!!!

I am having someone at the site power cycle the switch.

Stay tuned, this may take a day or so to get someone there to respond to me.

Best of luck, but the last BCM 400 I reset blew the power unit and the customers Cisco data switch even though it was on a UPS. I found out why when I removed the Motherboard as it was covered in dust and a surge from the BCM hit the Cisco kit as it was on the same UPS power feed.

That's why I have suggested that you get someone to clean / check it out when it's powered down. Don't make the mistake I made.
