Help with 5.1 and Arcserve 6.1

Installed Arcserve 6.1 onto NW 5.1. Installation had a problem with the adapter.inf file, which I corrected, and it let me choose the correct adapter and installation appeared to go through fine.

I tried to run ASTART6 but it had problems because the asconfig.ini file was completely missing its "LOAD" section. The error said to "reinstall the program", which I did, simply overwriting what was already in SYS\arcserve.6.

I rebooted, and now the server comes up loading several modules, however gets an error about nwtape.cdm, then the console screen just scrolls over and over with multiple errors about clib.nlm and tli.nlm.

I can bring up another console and run nwconfig and look at the autoexec.ncf, however it appears the same as before the install.

Luckily I have an image of the server right before I installed this, so I can restore that.

Any suggestions on this situation?

What service pack are you running on the server?

Arcserve has issues when installing from a Win2K machine. The asconfig.ini doesn't get created right. Ran into this PITA issue a few time my self. Brushed up on my Hindi and called CAI tech support to find the resolution.

Use a win98 machine to install Arcserve.

Don't use NWTAPE, use NWASPI. Remove it from your startup files, and you may need to enter a command to remove if anything is autoloading it (or even delete it from the DOS partition and the SYS volume). If NWASPI does not load when you run it, it is located in C:\NWSERVER\DRIVERS

That makes sense about the asconfig.ini. I was installing it from XP...

Yea, CA tech support is quite the joke... I've had to call them before about Arcserve 9 for netware.

Any ideas on the console screen scrolling constantly with errors about clib.nlm and tli.nlm? Eventually the server prompt comes up, (after about 15 minutes of scrolling) but I still can't do much. If I try to run tcpcon I just get several errors about other nlms that didn't load.

that thing you mention about scrolling and eventually getting a prompt.. it has to do with some outdated modules on your server. Find out what is not loading and then get updates.

I hate to repeat myself, but what Service Pack are you running on your server? The reason I ask (again) is basically because applying the latest SP (or reapplying) will probably resolve your outdated NLM issue.

search CA's site for info on CANWPABD.CDM in place of NWASPI for Netware 5.1
