Well idiot me always plugged the jumpdrive through my front usb port and never had a problem.

Last night at work, showed a buddy and thought id try it on the comp there, as i was taking it out he said no, click on the task manager to remove it properly i said naaa it's fine. It was.
Last night at home, thought id try it and again, plugged it in and removed it no problem.
This morning plugged it in, but for some reason took it out while it was being loaded and read by the computer.

So it got corrupted, called Sandisk they tried to troubleshoot it and it was fried, they said send it in with proof of purchase and theyll send me a new one.

Asked them they won't try to fix it or anything, just in case, because i do have some personal files and pictures of friends and family on there.
He said not to worry. I trust Sandisk and it's a very reputable company, but the other part of me says what if someone actually tests it out, gets it working and checks the files, not good.

So is there any way to wipe the memory off of it, outside the computer?
ie - taking a magnet to it? friends said, it won't work because it's a chip, inside.

Anyone? Anyone?....
...thanks in advance...

already tried formatting through my computer > manage > disk management...but the option for format isnt even there, its greyed out.

that's HP and i got a sandisk mini cruzer.
as well, at the end of my post i stated the tech at sandisk tried to help me format it and it didnt work...thanks.4.thereply though.appreciated.it.......

I have used it on many USB pen drives, and I have yet to use it on an HP pen drive (I have never seen one).

tried it but it says that the "the device media is write-protected".

tried FAT, FAT32, and NTFS.

any ideas BC? thanks.........

I just got a new "thumb" drive (PNY). On the bottom, is a real tiny slide switch (like a floppy) to set into "locked" mode. Check closely on yours, my flash card in my camera has the same thing.

I had a similar problem once and what I needed to do was track down someone with a running copy of win98SE and install the drivers & packacged software for the jump drive on that computer, after doing this I was able to get it to work properly again. This was after unsuccessfully trying all sorts of tricks in Win XP Pro. The other thing to do is to make sure that the write protect switch on the side of the drive has not been broken into the on position.

well im not home, but ill give it a shot.
thanks again guys. =)
really appreciated all this

no write protect switch on this one.
did a search and it says this model doesn't which is fine with me.

so i guess it's a lost cause and just send in for a new one

really appreciated the help guys...unless you guys can think of anything else? lol.........
