could anyone please explain why i seem to be redirected when i try to access one particular directory eg :

$cd /dir1 ... change to dir1
$/dir1 cd dir2 ... changed ok - now change to dir 2
$/dir1/dir2 cd dir3 ... changed ok - now change to dir 3
$/dira/dirb/dirc ... redirected to another path/dir !

is there a unix redirect option/environment variable setup that i can read up on ? (dba is missing at the moment)
Best of Irish Luck, David.

More than likely, the directory dir3 is a link to another (real) directory. When you cd to the link, you get the actual (real) path.

Hope this helps. Al
