HELP! Upgrading ACS to R7 - Is Partner Mail VS R3 compatible?

I am upgrading one of my existing customers from an ACS R1 to an ACS R7. They currently have a Partner Mail VS R3.
Is the ACS R7 and the Mail VS R3 compatible?

When I go to the Avaya website to read up on compatibility, it's vague but leans toward the notion that the two are compatible. When I have asked a few others that may know personally, they suggest upgrading to a Partner Messaging (which is what I want to do, but costs are an issue for the customer) because Avaya does not support the Mail VS R3 any longer.

Can anyone enlighten me on the compatibility issues here and what, if any, are the issues that [can] happen when one tries to mesh these two together....?

Officially, the only version of Partner Mail VS that will function properly with the R7 processor is the PMVS R5, but first a patch needs to be applied by using an R6 processor.

I believe that the DND feature will not function correctly if you use the R3 voicemail with the R7 processor.

There may be other issues, but that is the one that I am aware of.
