The day started out ok, then quickly degenerated into a mess. We got a new ISP for my company last week and have been in the process of changing our client workstations and servers over to the new gateway and DNS servers. I attempted to change the settings in one of our Alpha 1200 servers running Digital Unix 4.0f. After replacing the gateway and nameserver info I disabled and reenabled the nic using the GUI attempting to restart the network without rebooting the server. After he reenabled the nic, it appears that the information for the nic was gone and all needed to be re-keyed. The server at this time seemed ok still, but wasnt using the new settings. After a reboot, the server has serious trouble. We are getting the following error on the system console:

Either svrSystem_mib is not running or envmon.mod is not loaded.
Error code set in packet - No such variable name. Index 1.

The network adapter is not communicating with the rest of the LAN but will answer a ping to its own IP address from the terminal. The server is also VERY VERY slow in responding to any input that requires loading a program. Just scanning directories or calling up man pages is fine though. Ive put the old entries back in for the gateway and name server, but its not seeming to make any difference. What am I missing? Is there somewhere else that needs to be resetup after removing a nic from the configuration? The nic 'appears' to be UP to the server, yet is not communicating.

Thanks.

Could it be that removing the network interface card in the manner I did caused the drivers not to reload or bind properly to the tu0 adapter? Im wondering if the svrSystem_mib isnt starting because my adapter isnt working? Grabbing at staws now, but still grabbing...

Fixed it. Removed and reinstalled the nic manually with the command line and everything began working as expected.
