I am trying to install sql server2000 client tools but when I start the instal by clicking autorun.exe I get the following error. I have installed on other xp pro machines although they were sp2 (do not know if makes any difference)

16-bit windows subsystem
c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt. This system file is not suitab;le for running ms-dos and windows apps. Choose Close to terminate the app.

Anybody know a work around or solution

I once had this kind of problem. It was du to the deletion (don't know how) of the "c:windows\system32\autoexec.nt" file. Is this file still present on the PC ? If no, try to search for it in the whole disk (it was saved on mine elwhere) and copy it back to sys32.

Water is not bad as long as it remains outside human body ;-)

why would this xp pro sp1 be installed with a 16 bit subsytem anyway???. Was it maybe an install parameter some goat head used to install, and therefore if I reinstall maybe I can instal w/0 16 bit subsystem?

don't know, maybe a old 16bits program remains in SQL installer ???? Microsoft mysteries ;o)
