Hello,

My SQL SERVER AGENT 2008 R2 will not start. It was working before I installed active directory. I have the following programs installed on my server. Sharepoint 2010, Visio Services, SQl Server 2008 R2 enterprise edition. This is for your information. I am not getting any specific errors when trying to start sql server agent. I also cannot start Analysis Services. I cannot start both sql server agent or Analysis Services using sql server configuration manager. I would appreciate anyone's response. The error I get is below:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

First thing to check - check if your temp path does not have invalid entries.

It may be irrelevant, but recently my colleague had issues in SSMS. I suggested her a system restored and this solved the problem, but I also asked this question from a person I know who is a developer in MS. That was his response.

Can you start the services from the Services applet or the command line?

Hello mrdenny and markros,

I have started SQL Server Agent through Windows services, Command line, Sql Server configuration manager and using Sql Server management Studio. None of it works. I also cannot start Analysis Services.

Where is this Temp path located. What I am suppose to look for in these invalid entries. I would appreciate your info.

This is the only error generated by starting SQL Server Agent. I would appreciate anyone's help. Below are the errors I am receiving:

I think I might know the problem.

Can you please go to Start > Run > CMD
And type SET t command (like below)

Mostly it’s pointing to invalid location for TEMP and TMP variables

OK, stop posting the .NET stack dumps they are useless. Look in the event log and see why the services are failing to start.

Hello mrdenny,

I have been looking in the event viewer while trying to start sql server agent. The only error i get is this one below:

The SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER2011) service entered the stopped state

I also cannot generate a new SQLAGENT.OUT file. The main error I always get is the one below:

There's no other errors before the error saying that the service was stopped? Check the NTFS permissions on the folder with the logs and make sure that the account that the SQL Agent is running under has full rights to the folder.

Hello mrdenny,

Thanks for the info. I added the account that the SQL Agent uses to the folder with the logs. Applied the full rights and everything worked. It's amazing that this error does not show anything in the event viewer logs. Either way I appreciate all your help!!!! You are a lifesaver. Take Care
