Trying to install a Network card in a SCO openserver ver 5.05 PC. It will autodetect the card, but when I hit continue, it just hangs. I've tried several different cards / drivers with the same results. The only way to bring it back is to kill the POP process. I get the same results when I intall from the GUI netconfig, or from the command line.

Have you tried the you checking your book, the CD-ROM, and SCO.com for your hardware listings to see if it is listed. If it is I would uninstall NETWORK potocol(TCP-IP,IPX...) uninstall the card, rebuild the kernel and reboot. Add the NIC then rebuild the kernel, reboot. Then add your NETWORK protocol, relink the kernel, test with ping if it doesn't hang. Look you should be able to do everythink in above without out rebooting just relinking the kernel, a reboot would clear everything and you can watch the config for errors. All so check you system.log and messages for errors in detail.

Thanks for the responce. I've used these cards before,(Kingston 10/100 PCI) and they have worked fine. I've also tried a Dlink, and Intel cards with the same results. Today, I removed TCP/IP, and all networking softare, re-linked, re-installed TCP/IP. Everything goes back in fine, until I try to install the NIC. It will auto-detect, and when I hit continue, it just hangs. No errors, or any other indication of trouble. The PC doesn't lock-up, just that session.

I have encountered this a couple of times with no definitive cause(if it is hanging in the tcp configuration dialog). Check and make sure all patches are installed. The way we were able to work around it was to attempt the netconfig with a different terminal emulation (used a vt emulator as opposed to the scoansi console).
