Help Restore problems!

I'm new to DB2 and our data collection server crashed. I put the backup drive in place and copied from tape the data base files but DB2 doesn't see them. The backup drive is 1 1/2 years old we've added new product scents then and DB2 does not see them. What have I done wrong.

Hello Eric,

I suspect that you have a back-up of the entire server on tape. With such a back-up you can restore the ENTIRE server to the exact status that is held on the tape. You physically create a copy of the disks on the server. This type of all or nothing backup should be done very reguraly if you want it to restore in case of crash (We do it every night, keeping the tapes one week)
There are NO agents available for DB2 that can select the exact data that belongs to a DB2 database to restore just the part of the server data concerning the database. (there are such agents for other RDBMS) If you want to restore just a database you can schedule a backup procedure that creates a back-up file you can use for a database restore (I will give you exact details if you want them).
Copying information from the tape will do no good, you will have to a full server restore to use data on the tape.

If the server back-up is 1,5 years old , I can imagine you will find that a lot of data is missing ........

I think the db2levels are different so please chk the version for which backup u r having and what is the current version installed on your server
