Dear Sir/Madam,

We are currently using the Btrieve 5 version (DOS based). We need to connect to this using the ASP (Active Server Pages)- ODBC, IIS.

We have realized that to do so we require the, at least, Pervasive 6.15 version or later. We would like to know the steps that we need to follow for Upgrading the older version to Pervasive 6.15 or later Version(s) (preferably Pervasive 2000i).

If we are going to use this database for Web-based applications, do we require the Pervasive 2000i server engine ??

Also, we would like to know the possible ways of connection to Pervasive SQL using ASP.

In order to do web apps through ASP, you'll need to either create an ISAPI DLL that makes Btrieve calls or use ASP with ADO to an ODBC driver. Regardless of which method you use, you'll need a 32 bit interface to the engine. Btrieve v6.15 and later offer 32 bit interfaces. I would recommend Pervasive.SQL 2000i Server Engine because the ODBC driver is thread safe for Web based apps and you'll need the Internet/Intranet license in order to be legally licensed for web apps. mirtheil@mirtheil.com

Hi Mirtheil,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

If we have the Pervasive 2000i server engine, can we upgrade the Btrieve 5 automatically to the pervasive SQL ? OR

can we import the data from the Btrieve 5 to Pervasive SQL 2000i ?

By the Intranet/Internet licence, does it mean that we require to buy the Pervasive 2000i server engine, or does it mean anything else ?

Thanks,
Prasanna

We have data in betrieve format. i.e. including three files (*.001 etc.) can form readable data. now I want to convert the whole data to sql. How do I? I mean all three files should be converted to sql & then by relating those three can form readable data. When we use export function of sql it asks for database which i dont know. if we take as text file it gives error.
So is it possible to convert the betrieve data to sql? pls answer this querry at the earliest

Presanna,
If you've already got Pervasive.SQL 2000, all you need to do is create an ODBC DSN pointing to the data. You'll need the DDFs but the data files can remain in v5.x format, although it is typically recommended to rebuild the file in v7.x format.

Sachiny,
There is no "converting Btrieve data to SQL" unless you are talking about converting the Btrieve file to MS SQL Server formats. If you just want to use SQL to access your Btrieve data, you'll need an ODBC driver and DDFs (that describe your data). Once you've got that, create the DSN and use your favorite program (Access, VB, VC, Crystal Reports, ASP, etc). If you have more questions, start a new thread. mirtheil@mirtheil.com
