I have a real problem. For the first time since I arrived at this location, 4 months ago, I need to restore from a backup. I'm running ArcserveIT 6.6 on Netware 5. I know the backups are good, because the verify is running. My problem is I don't have the ArcserveIT Manager running on any pc, and the person that was here before me misplaced the software. I do have a newer version of Arcserve, but when I tried to install the manager off of it and find the 6.6 version it doesn't see anything. Can someone please help me with this. I can't figure out how to restore from the server, so if anyone has info on how to get the Manager software, or restore from server, I'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have a vaild licence Comptuer Associates should be able to get you a replacement CD.

You can also do restores via the Arcserver Task Scheduler on the Novell Console. We shut our Novell down stuff a year ago so I don't remember the exact screens to tell you to go to.

The license is valid, but I don't have a copy of it anywhere. Any idea how I can get it? Also, the Arcserver Task Scheduler gives me an error, saying DLL's are missing, when I try to run it. It's all really screwed up and I'm moving away from Novell, but I need help with this one issue. Thanks.

Hi,

Am I missing something here. Isn't the management software installed on the server by default?

You should be able to run the manager from:

SYS:\arcserve.6\manager

Lou,
Thanks for the info. I have .dll files in the sys:\arcserve.6\manager folder, but everytime I try to run ArcserveIT I get an error stating the application could not launch using \arcserve.6\manager\arcserve.exe. File not found. I've looked, and there isn't an executable in that folder. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks,
Lou if you'll notice my first post, I'd love to reinstall Arcserve Manager. The big problem is that I no longer have the software. So, if someone could tell me how to restore files from the console that would be great.

Hi,

Sorry about that, I guess I didn't read back.

You will need to know which session to restore from for the steps below, but of course you can try all the sessions until you find the session that backsup the database.

Also, I am not in front of a server and most of this is from memory so it may not be quite right.

1. Place the old tape in the tape drive.
2. Go to the Arcserve Scheduler Screen from the server console.
3. Select Restore Netware Server from the available options screen. Login using a typeful distinguished name. (i.e. .cn=admin.ou=(organizational unit).o=(organization name).)
4. Now put the sessions number in. (Trial and error here) 5. Go down to destination and hit the insert button.
6. Browse to the place you what the file to end Up. This should be the Manager dir under the Arcserve.6 dir. Suggestion: restore to temp dir first, you can move the files later.
7. Hit f5 to mark it and then f2 to save it.
8. Go to Filters and hit enter.
9. Go to directory filters and hit enter. (You may need to use file filter).
10. Use the Include filter.
11. Go to File/directory Pattern and put in just the name of the file/directory. No other path! Hit enter and then f2 to save.
12. Go to options. Turn off userspace and directory space restrictions. Turn off create empty Directory. Hit F2 to save.
13. Hit f2 to schedule and verify that the time and date are correct.
14. Hit f2 to submit the job to the queue.

Good Luck
Lou

jce001, did you ever get this working? I may be able to help come up with a copy if you still need it...

SurlyT,
I'm still having all kinds of problems with this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
