I have downloaded the n ewest win 32 installer for Gimp from the links on source forge.. when i try to install it says set up cant continue because it was compiled for pentium processor... I am using a Pentium Pro 200 processor with windows 2000 ... how can i over come this?
thanks for any help

You could try an older version of the GIMP.

Have a look at:
ftp://ftp.esat.net/mirrors/ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/win32/
or one of the other mirrors.

i kind of want to try to use the newer version. it says the program only needs pentium... i have pentium pro.. which is more like a pentium 2 than a plain pentium... is it the MMX thing thats the issue maybe? if so is it possible to compile a versiont hat doesnt rely on MMX.... i have no idea how to compile anything .. hehe.... anyone else have any ideas?

thanks

If you want to try compiling the program, you might be better off asking for advice on the GIMP's official mailing list.

However, even if you could compile for your machine, you would probably find the program so slow as to be almost unusable. It's a modern program, designed for a modern machine.

I dont see why it would run so slow... it says its for Pentium class or better CPU.. Pentium Pro is better than Pentium class

I run GIMP on a P3/800 at home and it runs great.
