I'm trying to install a new DS1 (PRI) Circuit to an Definity G3r. I've never installed one before, so I'm looking for ANY tips/info. I have on order:
-TN464GP
-120A4 CSU
-50ft of CSU cable
-Loop-back jack

Can someone tell me the order of installing these items? Do I install the CSU first, slide the card in, "add new ds1" (configure with distant end), done?

help.

Thanks.

Yup. I think it is that simple. Once configured, you may have to reseat the card to reset the CSU. Other than that, it's pretty simple.

That sounds a little toooo easy. Could you clarify what you mean by re-seating the card.

Are you saying I'll have to take the card out and re-insert it, and this will reset the CSU? Why does the CSU need to be reset?

If you are using an ICSU, they need reset initially, but if you are using an external CSU, then you will not need to do this.

I am using a ICSU (120A4). So by reseating the card once it's configured will reset the CSU? Once it's configured does that normally mean it's operational?

Also, will I need to "add trunk-group n" to add this DS1 to the trunk list or will it already be added by doing "add ds1 01A15"?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, I'm still a rookie at this Definity, but when you say add ports to trunk group, do you mean "add trunk-group 2" and configuring it again, or adding trunk members?

My understanding of the process should be as follows:
[ol]
[li]Install the TN464GP circuit pack into an empty slot in the chosen carrier.[/li]
[li]Install the 120A4 CSU on the appropriate connector for the TN464GP circuit pack.[/li]
[li]Interconnect the CSU, the loop back, and the provider network.[/li]
[li]Configure the DS1 interface with the information provided by the provider. To do this, you will use the [red]ADD DS1 NNCBBPP[/red] where NN is the port network ID, C is the carrier ID, BB is the circuit pack location, and PP is the port ID.[/li]
[li]Enter the information in the Add DS1 Circuit Pack screen. Be sure to select the correct signaling mode, line code, etc... with information provided by the provider.[/li]
[li]Add the DS1 to a trunk group or create a new trunk group for the DS1. To do this, use either the [red]ADD TRUNK-GROUP NEXT[/red] command or the [red]CHANGE TRUNK-GROUP NN[/red] command, where NN is the desired trunk group number.[/li]
[/ol]
Once you get to this point, you should be ready to go. As 84Mike mentioned, you may need to reset the CSU after the changes are made. This is done by re-seating the TN464GP card, which entails removing it from the carrier and re-inserting it. This drops the power to the CSU and will cause it to re-boot. I have not, personally, needed to do this in the past, but your milage may very.

I only thought I would add this because I got burnt on it last night... Attempted to turn up 3 T1s and did not check disp cap. After all the ports and other info were added to group member assignments, it would not allow the trunk to be modified since I went over the limit for port and station RTUs. I am sure most people are mindful of this but I missed it and now have to acquire more RTUs...
