Help! - Outlook express server passord save problem

Ok, here is my long story.

I wanted to clone my Windows 2000 drive to a new drive using Ghost 7.0. I had boot problems on the new drive, so I tried again, using Symanatec's suggestion to use MS Sysprep tool 1.1, to perhaps help the cause. (it didn't help me). What it did do was create problems on my original drive with permissions to other drives and folders. That all straighened out, my remaining issue is my email client; Outlook Express.

When OE 5.5 would go to my mail servers, I was prompted for passwords. Hmmm. Looking at Tools; Accounts; Mail Tab; "any mail account"; Server Tab, the passord was blank, with the remember password box checked. Subsequent attempts to reenter and save passwords are futile.

I tried numerous things, like upgrading from 5.5 to 6.0. I'm stumped, any ideas?

I tried to de-install / re-install according to procedure on MS tech site. Manual deinstallation was a pain, and after reinstallation, it still didn't work...

I am having the same problem about outlook express not remembering my passwords. I still havn't found a fix.

I'm still dealing with it.

Something in the security with window 2000 is my guess. I manually un-installed OE, and thought I was onto something, but I was disappointed.

I'm planning to address it with a virgin reload of both W2K and IE/Outlook.

This problem stems from renaming your user account in woindows 2000. Perhaps from administrator to your own name. The thing to do is either change the name back or create a new user account.

I had this same problem on my laptop with w2k and outlook. I could not save the password for mail under within the mail account properties feature.

I was under administrator, I tried creating a new user account under my name, gave it all priveleges and then setup mail again. Worked!
