Hi

I am trying to create a report that has 4 groups.
I want to subtotal group 1 and 2, and then take the group 2 value away from group 1.

I then wish to take this new value and carry it forward, so that when I have subtotaled groups 3 and 4, I can take their value away from the first. A bit like a Profit and loss report.

I am not very good at running totals and need a little help.

Anybody willing.

Please provide a little more information like some field names, etc. When you refer to groups 1 to 4, can we assume that these are instances of the same group? Please show us a little about the report structure, and explain what the calculation is. What is it about groups 1 and 2 that leads you to want to group them together? Right now it's a little too abstract.

Hi

The report is designed to display the values from a
project, by costcentre.
The costcentres are grouped by type
SALES
COSTS
LABOUR
OVERHEADS

When displayed on the report I wish to show the subtotal for each group when displayed.
In addition I wish to subtract the value of COSTS from the value of SALES to show the difference (GROSS PROFIT)and be able to calculate a % difference.

I then need to hold that new value called GROSSPROFIT and use it to calculate the final figure at the end of the report, by subtracting the final two group values from it

eg
SALES 10000
COSTS 5000

GROSS PROFIT 5000

LABOUR 1000
OVERHEADS 1000

FINAL PROFIT 3000

I have tried to use the running totals, but cannot work out how to get the resets working correctly.

For each running total, use the evaluate based on a formula section and enter a formula like:

{table.type} = "Sales"

Then leave "Reset" at "Never". These running totals will retain their values through the end of the report, and you can then use them in formulas like {@GrossProfit}:

{#Sales} - {#Cost}

//Or for {@finalprofit}:

{@GrossProfit} - {#Labour}-{#Overhead}
