Hi,

We use Mitel 5212 Dual Mode handsets on a Mitel 3300 ICP system.
I want to be able to lock my phone with a pin code. Is this possible?

If yes can you please direct me as to where in the System Administration Tool or how to activate the lock feature on the handset.

Your help is greatly appriciated.

You can not lock the phone with a pin code. The best you could do if your software is new enough is use the hotdesk feature. You would then login to your phone which would give it a particular class of service and class of restriction. At the end of the day you logout and the phone would revert to a lower COS and COR. IF you want to lock the phone so someone can't change the button programming that is not possible.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

What we used to do is restrict the COR to internal only and then assign independent account codes to users that needed to use the phone.
Then when they wanted to make a call they would enter their account code, unrestricting the phone, and then make their call.

Thanks dryaquaman, your idea sounds better.

Can you please give me steps on how to do this. I will appreciate it.

Change the COR of the phone to a restricted COR.
If you don't have one - and IMHO '1' should be restricted - then you'll have to create one. If you don't know how I'd suggest getting your VAR involved.

Once you've assigned a restricted COR to the phone, go to the Independent Account Code form and create an account code. Assign the unrestricted COR and the same COS the phone has to it.

Then look up your feature access code and look up the code for account codes.

Usage is: dial feature code+account code+'#' - you'll get dialtone then you can dial the outside number. Be sure to include your ARS access code (9?)

there is a feature called 'phone lock' which resticts your handset from making calls and also only allows incomming to the prime number. To unlock you must then enter a PIN. Think this came out in Release 9.

You will need to assign a PIN in user config and then program a phone lock key or use the FAC

Depends on the "lock" required, and if you use a day/night mode, maybe just changing the CoR in night mode would do it?

but changing the COR on change of service is not 'lock' and is dependant on the system/tennant goign into night service which could effect other users.

I would also recommend phone lock below is from the help file

Phone Lock

Description:
The Phone Lock feature locks a set, preventing access to the majority of features, with the following exceptions: unlocking the set via a user PIN, Hot Desk Login and Logout support, and Emergency Call Notification support. Phone Lock has no effect on incoming calls but restricts outgoing calls, with the following exceptions: calls to emergency trunk routes and local operators.

Most keys on the device are disabled, except the dial pad and volume keys. Superkey access, the Settings shutter, softkeys, feature access keys, feature access codes (see note), Applications access, and account codes are disabled when the set is locked.

Note: Softkeys will be displayed but disabled with the exception of hot desking softkeys, which will remain enabled if the COS option "Hot Desk Login Accept" is enabled. The Phone Lock, Hot Desk login, and Emergency Notification feature access keys are still available. Superkey provides Emergency Notification if it is pending.

The set cannot be reconfigured using Superkey or Settings and private user information, such as Call History, Messages, speed calls, and last number redial are not accessible.

Note: The shutters on the 5235 IP Phone are not locked and remain active. Shutter information is still available, for example, Call History can be viewed. Call attempts from Call History will be rejected unless they are to emergency routes or local operators. Call History can be cleared, phone settings changed and so forth.

The set can receive calls on the prime line that can only be answered by going off-hook. All line appearances will continue to receive calls as usual when a set is locked but line keys cannot be pressed to answer calls. The only way to answer a call is to physically go off-hook. When there is an incoming call, the normal incoming call processing information is displayed.

If the call is on a non-prime line, the "Ringing Line Select" COS option must also be enabled to answer the calls. Calls are answered from oldest to newest by going off-hook. Otherwise, the call cannot be answered.

Audible ringing is provided (if configured) for calls to line appearances regardless of whether the user has the ability to answer the call.

The set informs the user of the locked status through the display. Interrupted dial tone is provided for display, non-display, and analog sets. SIP sets do not provide any indication of the locked status.

The user can lock and unlock the set using a feature access key or feature access code. A user-specific PIN is required when unlocking the set.

Conditions and Feature Interactions
The set or user must have the Phone Lock COS enabled to use Phone Lock.

The set must be in the idle state (there should not be any ongoing call) and not have any calls on hold or on consultation-hold on any line appearance.

The set must not be in headset mode.

See the Feature-Phone Matrix (PDF or Microsoft Excel version) for a list of the sets that support the Phone Lock feature.

Phone Lock also supports single line IP, analog, and SIP sets.

ACD Agents (Traditional and Hot Desk) do not support Phone Lock.

Phone Lock does not apply to external hot desk users. Their sets cannot be locked.

The following must be resilient through reboots, fail-over and upgrades: Lock Status, the Phone Lock COS option, and user PIN .

The locked/unlocked status is preserved through reboots, failover and failback.

The Phone Lock COS and PIN are shared by SDS when SDS is enabled. (COS is normally shared through a cluster, and the PIN is shared between the primary and secondary controllers of the set or user.)

The 5230, 5240, 5140, 5560 IP Turret, any consoles, Net Vision wireless, and YA softphone do not support Phone Lock.

Integrated Office Companion (IOC) Integrated Office Navigator (ION), YA in Deskphone mode, and other MiTAI interfaces can originate calls for a locked set but cannot answer calls when the set is locked - the set itself must be taken off-hook. Originated calls are subject to the normal call restrictions for a locked set.

Hot Desk users will be able to log onto a set while that set is locked provided the COS option "Hot Desk Login Accept" is enabled. Once logged in the Hot Desk user is provided normal display and full privileges. When Hot Desk user logs out, the phone returns to its previous state (i.e. locked).

When entering PINs through a set Superkey session, # may be used to terminate PIN entry, if desired, rather than using the ENTER or OK softkey. This can only be done if the system option "Disable End of Dial Character (#)" is set to "No".

Notification of Timed Reminders will be deferred until the set is unlocked.

Forced Account Codes must be disabled. The Forced Account Codes cause a conflict with Phone Lock, as they are required before a dial tone is given. This would prevent emergency calls. If account codes are forced, Phone Lock cannot be invoked.

Exceptions
All shutters on the 5235 IP Phone remain active while in the locked state.

SIP sets do not provide any indication to the user that the set is locked.

SIP sets support phone lock through feature access code only.

Sets that cannot have feature access keys can support Phone Lock through feature access codes.

All keys, including Superkey or Settings, on the SIP set remain enabled while the set is locked. Only outgoing calls are restricted while the set is locked.

The 5304 has only one feature key with a lamp. If a feature access key for phone lock is programmed on this set, subsequent feature keys programmed will not have a lamp available.

DNIC sets do not support Phone Lock.

A GUI replacement is available on the 5330 and 5340 sets. It is intended for use in hotels and other public places to provide a more intuitive interface for users. The GUI covers the call control soft prompt area. If the softkeys are not visible while entering a user PIN to unlock a set, the # key can be used to indicate that the PIN entry is complete.

Programming
Enable the Phone Lock option in the Class of Service Options form.

Set the User PIN in the User Configuration by selecting the user, and entering the PIN.

Confirm the User PIN.

Alternatively, the user PIN can be configured when the user is created from one of the following forms, depending on the set type:

Analog Sets

Multiline IP Sets

Single Line IP Sets

Wireless IP Sets

Note: If the user is a Hot Desk user, the user must be logged out.

If you intend to use feature access codes in Operation, assign the following codes in the Feature Access Codes form:

Phone Lock

Phone Unlock

If you intend to use a feature key in Operation, program a Phone Lock key in the Multiline Set Keys form.

Note: It is the administrator's responsibility to ensure that emergency routes do, indeed, go to emergency destinations - no further phone lock checks will be made on switches outside the locked set's host switch. It is assumed that all routes in a route list are emergency routes if the first route is. If the first route in a route list is not an emergency route, the list will be treated as a non-emergency destination for a locked set and the set will not be allowed to make a call to that route list.
