Dear All,

I have a PC (W2000) and laptop (wXP) and I am trying to create a wireless network between them. I have got a netgear 4 port hub and networked the PC to it. I have then networked a Belkin Wireless Application Point into the network.

The wireless modem in my Laptop recognises the wireless network and says it is connected to it.

SO far so good, but what now? I cannot see the PC from my lap top it doesn't recognise its presence on the net, or vice versa.

ANy help appreciated

Are your TCP/IP settings correct? Generally hubs are not configured to give out DHCP... so if it is a hub and not a router, then I would say you need to set a static IP address on your machines.. but if this is not the case, please give some more info on your problem.

Sorry back to basics

How can I tell if my TCP/IP' are correct. When I ping I get nothing, so I guess this means not?

DO I need to configure the WAP?

Essentially it appears the Laptop recognises the presence of the PC as it adds it to the workgroup and the icon appears on the Laptop. When I double click on it it givces the error: File path not available

The PC does not recognise anything. I am not even sure it is recognising the WAP on the network. How can i tell if my PC can see the WAP?

Any help to relieve this frustration appreciated

how is the PC connected to the network? Is it to, associated to the AP? At any rate, if you don't have a router, then you probobaly don't have any PC giving out DHCP.. so that means you need to set your TCP/IP settings statically.. that could be why your computers will not talk to eachother.. no IP address.

I imagine your setup looks like this

PC --- hub --- WAP ******* Laptop

1. Check that your laptop IS linking to the WAP...
-Check the WAP settings, especially SSID

2. Configure TCP/IP on both PCs
-as there doesn't appear to be a DHCP server on your network, you need static addresses
-assign IPs 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 using subnet 255.255.255.0
-the 192.168.0.x IP range is reserved for home networks, so stick to using this
-check the windows' help-files for instructions on setting up static IPs <marc>[ul]help us help![li]please provide feedback on what works / doesn't[/li][li]not sure where to start? click here: faq581-3339[/li][/sup][/ul][/sup]

thanks for all your advice. the static IP adresses worked!
