Help Needed With Type Tool Illustrator

Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble getting the type tool tool to display text in the correct size. No matter what size I set the type to, the size shown on the page is so small I can barely see it.
This is the first time I've encountered this problem. I'd appreciate any assistance.
