Hi everyone,

Hoping someboday can help me.

We have an application from a company called Cedar Creek - which uses a Progress Database that I am trying to connect to with Crystal Reports via ODBC driver (Merant) that is installed with the client software for the app.

I am using Crystal Reports V10 - and have successfully set up a System DSN and established a successful connection. I can see the datasource within Crystal Reports. I can choose and link tables, etc. - but as soon as I try to browse the fields or run the report - a logon box appears. We have tried every username/password combo inc the admin details with no luck.

Contacted Cedar Creek - no help - and now Tek-Tipsters - you are my only hope . . . can anyone shed some light?

Thanks in advance

What version of Progress are you using?

Did you try "SYSPROGRESS" as a user-id?

Have a look in the Progres Database Administration Guide & Reference in Chapter 10 Maintaining Security.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for responding - we are using Progress 9.1_D. I have managed to successfully connect with Crystal Reports V10 to the sadb database as Administrator and retrieve data. I managed to download a white paper called Getting Started with Crystal 9 and Progress. This paper explained in detail the steps involved in connecting to the System database - which is the one I successfully connected to.

The issue surrounds connecting to the psc database, which holds all the Production data that I wish to access and write reports against. When we try to connect we get the "Access denied (Authorisation failed)" error message through Crystal Reports. It seems that almost any combination of usernames/passwords/no password will allow us to connect and see the tables (for example sysprogress/no password) - but the error appears when data is being retrieved.

I believe it is because the user does not have SELECT privileges for any of the tables. The white paper explains how to use an SQL statement to grant these privileges - however - we cannot successfully execute the SQL statement for the psc database because we get a "Username and or password does not match" error when trying to connct via the SQL Explorer - the only tool that will allow a permission change to the database. It will let us log in as sysprogress/no password but will not execute SQL with no password.

Any ideas?

Cheers
