I'm trying to make a simple Excel97 spreadsheet, with some Canadian equilavents to my instructions. These will have to have the dashes above the e's and a's. The insert menu does not give me symbol or the Control Panel does not give me Character Map. What am I missing? I found in word the shortcut equilavents, but Excel will not let me type
Ctrl + ~, E. I'm so confused. This should be easier than this. I searched Mr. Gates website for a download of the character map with no success. Does anyone have any further ideas?

This will be a one-time thing, to build the spreadsheet, so extensive software or keyboards should not be necessary.

Thanks for ANY help, this is stressing me OUT!!!

Well, I'm typing it in word with the shortcut keys that work and copying them into Excel. I know there has to be a better way, but I'm getting my project done.

No longer stressed, so just give me the correct way if you want.

Thanks,

Install character map from the Office cd - I believe it's an option when installing.

Thanks for the reply,
I'll do that after I finish this project, almost done now. It would have saved me at least an hour of searching! Sometimes for me it seems the simple things are harder!!!!

Use Char(#) and then copy/paste special as values. Then copy paste the desired characters where you need them.
Better yet, you can change all "a" to "à" by using find/replace.

Just for future reference, I use a mixture of UK English and Brazilian Portuguese languages in all office apps.

You should install support for the other language you need to use through the 'keyboard' applet in control panel - you will get an indicator/select icon in the systray on the task bar.

You can very easily switch between the two at any time, and use the appropriate keyboard shortcuts. Works fine on mine.
